Terms and Conditions

The Life Practice – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Practitioner: Stephen Renwick

1. Nature of the Service

The Life Practice provides psychological therapy based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Therapy is offered online or by telephone.

The service is intended for adults seeking support with emotional, psychological, or life difficulties. Therapy is not a crisis service, emergency service, or substitute for medical or psychiatric care.

2. Not a Medical or Emergency Service

Therapy provided by The Life Practice:

  • Does not replace GP, psychiatric, or medical treatment
  • Does not provide diagnoses, prescriptions, or medical advice
  • Is not suitable for individuals requiring urgent or crisis intervention

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, suicidal thoughts, or are at immediate risk of harm, please contact:

  • Your GP
  • NHS 111
  • Accident & Emergency (A&E)
  • Samaritans (UK): 116 123

3. Suitability for Therapy

By engaging in therapy, you confirm that:

  • You are aged 18 or over
  • You are seeking therapy voluntarily
  • You understand that therapy may involve discussing difficult thoughts, feelings, or experiences

The therapist reserves the right to decline or discontinue therapy if it is deemed unsuitable, outside scope of practice, or if another service would better meet your needs.

4. Online and Telephone Sessions

Therapy is delivered remotely using secure platforms or by phone.

You are responsible for:

  • Ensuring a private, quiet space during sessions
  • Having a reliable internet or phone connection
  • Maintaining confidentiality at your end

The Life Practice is not responsible for interruptions caused by technical issues beyond reasonable control.

5. Confidentiality

All sessions are confidential, in line with professional and ethical standards.

Confidentiality may be broken only if:

  • There is a serious risk of harm to you or others
  • There is a safeguarding concern
  • Disclosure is required by law

Where possible, this will be discussed with you before any action is taken.

6. Data Protection and Privacy

Personal information is handled in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Information is collected only for therapeutic, administrative, and legal purposes.

7. Appointments, Cancellations, and Fees

  • Sessions are by appointment only
  • Payment terms will be agreed in advance
  • Cancellations usually require at least 24 hours’ notice
  • Late cancellations or missed sessions may be chargeable

Specific fees and payment arrangements will be clearly communicated before therapy begins.

8. Therapy Process and Outcomes

Therapy is a collaborative process. While ACT is evidence-based, no guarantees can be made regarding outcomes.

Progress depends on many factors, including engagement, circumstances, and individual differences.

You remain responsible for decisions you make during and outside therapy.

9. Professional Boundaries

Therapy sessions are strictly professional. Contact outside sessions is limited to administrative or therapeutic purposes only.

The Life Practice does not engage in:

  • Social relationships with clients
  • Contact via social media

10. Ending Therapy

You may end therapy at any time.

The therapist may also end therapy if:

  • It is no longer beneficial
  • Professional boundaries are compromised
  • Sessions are repeatedly missed without notice

Where appropriate, alternative support options may be suggested.

11. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

12. Acceptance of Terms

By booking or attending a session, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
